Who needs scaling and root planning?
Gingivitis is the earliest and mildest form of gum disease. It’s easily reversible with standard cleanings and diligent oral hygiene. When it’s not treated, gingivitis progresses and causes deep periodontal pockets to form between your teeth and gums.

What can I expect from scaling and root planning?
Your treatment may need two or more visits. We’ll start by numbing your gums with a local anesthetic. After root debridement, we’ll polish (plane) your gums to leave a healthy, clean surface to allow gums to reattach to your teeth.

After treatment, you may experience mild pain, bruising, and swelling. These discomforts are expected because deep teeth cleaning goes beneath the gum line. We’ll also schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your treatment progress. For many patients, SRP is enough to resolve the infection.
